ARIZONA VACATION

Well, we want to share some of the photos of our 10-day trip through Arizona. We had a great time and saw lots of interesting sights and enjoyed mostly great weather. I can only tackle a day or two at a time…so here’s the first installment:

DAY 1: Left Friday evening at 5:00pm. It took until midnight to get to Kanab, because we had to drive through a blizzard, in the dark, with people sliding off the road, etc., from Fillmore on down.

DAY 2: We woke up to brilliant sunshine, and clear roads. We wandered around Kanab and drove on through the Kaibab Forest to Jacob Lake and the Vermilion Cliffs before crossing the Colorado River on our way to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Hard to explain how “grand” and expansive it is. We stopped at about 10 view points and then went to see the 40-minute IMAX presentation…WOW. The camerawork was excellent . Rafting on the Colorado River and skimming over the surface and up and down the canyons seemed really real. We stayed in Flagstaff.

Saturday Morning, April 4th...it's springtime at our motel in Kanab after the blizzard the night before!

A stagecoach in downtown Kanab.

Mom and a big wooden guy...we were at this spot with a group of French tourists!

Saw lots of these signs, but didn't see an elk.

We first saw this oddity from twice as far away when we stopped to do some geocaching at the Arizona border and couldn't imagine what it was.

Upon closer inspection, we found it was an "on your honor" desert gift shop of mostly rock trinkets! We put some dollars in the slotted can and picked out a few treasures.

Kaibab Pass viewpoint...lots of snow.

Old tree, rocks, view, snow, blue sky.

Vermilion Cliffs

Crossing the Colorado River just after lunch.

A cache site close to the entrance to Grand Canyon. We dropped a polished rock Travel Bug that was made by our neighbors, the Percivals.

We made it to the South Rim entrance and purchased our lifetime National Park Pass (thanks, Autumn!)

Interesting sign in the park...didn't see any mountain lions though.

Horseshoe bend in the river

Colors that were ever changing ...

Layers that went on and on...

Wow I'd love to go see the Grand Canyon someday. It looks fantastic! Did we ever go there when I was little? I can't remember. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next installment of photos! :)
