March Amalgam

My faith and patience are waning as far as spring and some-other-color-than-gray are concerned. Dad decided to put a smile on my face and BUY me some tulips! These said Imported from Holland...I guess at least they have sunshine over there. These posies certainly have brightened up the kitchen and I took them to R.S. for my lesson on Sunday.
My neighbor (visiting teacher) must have thought I needed some cheering up, too. Don't you just love this big dragonfly balloon?

Dad and I, mostly Dad, have just spent 2+ weeks pruning the red twig dogwood bushes, and some mugos and other bushes to meet the city clean-up deadline. They came with some big equipment, loaded and hauled 1/2 of it (across the street from our house) away on Tuesday. (The other 1/2 is up on 2nd East.) It was hard for us to believe that we actually have 90, (yes that is ninety!) dogwoods that are mostly about 8' tall and 4' wide. It took 30-45 minutes per bush to prune almost 2 feet off all the tops (well, every little twig) and take out the dead wood!!! So, yeah, we spent a lot of time on it. The red twigs in the foreground are a few of the shorter ones going up the rock walk that will still need a slight haircut. We should have opted for more vinyl fence.

These photos are for you to enjoy, Talmage and Colby! Grandpa had fun watching.

Here's Brie with tiara and curls, after her first Irish Dance Recital in Alpine with the Shelly School of Irish Dance. She did a great job...watch the upcoming video.

The dancer and her supporters. We went out for ice cream and burgers afterwards. Here's the video of Brielle. She really stays on the beat and I like the way she hurries to keep up with the troupe exiting the stage. Good job little dancer, we're proud of you. (Brie is third from the left at the beginning.)

Birthday Boys

We celebrated Abram and Laur's birthdays a week early so everyone in the vicinity could attend. Here's the 'ole man slicing olives for the salad.

2 leprechauns...

Here's where it all happens, our favorite spot, the kitchen.

Kitchen helpers slicing celery and buttering the garlic bread.

Ah, the lasagna!

Ready, set, go!

I know something you do not know.

Birthday Boy and presents.

The XXL bag of Peanut M&Ms...56oz. (that's 3-1/2 lbs.), plus a 2-1/2 lb. jar of mixed nuts!

Abram and his SquidBright Work Light. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Autumn and Colby.

And don't forget the Birthday Cheesecake.

Perusing old books and salvaging some favorites prior to the trip to D.I.

We had 6" of wet snow on Monday night, the 7th of March...trees in the sun the next morning.

More trees and the rock terraces at sunrise.

The snow-laden willows draped over the pond making it look like a cave.

And one bird photo just for fun...all finches, house (rosy) and gold.

Brielle's Baptism

What a wonderful day...March 5th, 2011, in Lehi, Utah...Brielle's baptism. It was a perfect occasion. The speakers were great and the moment with Baron and Brie in the font was very special. Brie's gasp of air and big smile won't be forgotten. It was good to sit around the high council table writing down our testimonies, singing hymns and waiting for Brie and Donette to arrive. Baron's confimation prayer was so heartfelt and the spirit was certainly there with us. It's hard to believe our oldest grandchild is already eight. Brie, you looked beautiful in your white dress.

Afterwards, we had a wonderful brunch at Donnell Taggart's lovely home...a tasty egg casserole made by Annette, grapes and strawberries, muffins, sweet breads and bagels, snickerdoodles, nuts, orange juice, etc. There was a pretty good group of friends and family to help celebrate. Colby is looking spiffy in his shirt, tie and vest. Baron cleans up pretty good, too.

A happy Barker Bunch.

All smiles.

Donette, Baron, Brie and Colby...what a handsome, happy family.

Here are the photos that Autumn took of Brielle the week before. What a wonderful arrangement of creative poses! Dad caught Baron and Grandma in the mirror's reflection.

Closer view. Thanks Autumn.

Guess it won't be the Lehi Barkers for much longer...it will be the Eagle Mountain Barkers! This is their new home that they should be able to close on and move into in about 6 or 7 weeks. Dad and I think it's great. We got to look in the windows and walk all around it. The location is so close to the church and a nice, big park...about a block away. We hope it will be a nice neighborhood to live in.

Thanks for taking us out to see your new home-to-be, Baron. We're glad everything has worked out so well. Love the address...7666 Snowy Owl Road.

I guess a blog wouldn't be complete without a bird photo. Took this one, probably a redtailed hawk, on the road out of Saratoga Springs.
