Whomping the Willows

The 2 willows around the pond are out of control. We prune them back every year and it only encourages them. They've taken over. By the end of this summer they were literally 10 feet tall and covering the pond, the rocks and my big pot of marigolds.

Lewistown, Montana

Before Airie came home from the hospital, Dad and I had some time to look around Lewistown and take a lot of photos. (We found a few geocaches, too, of course.) The weather was pretty nice...warm with only one little shower. If you are interested...you can get a better idea of this remote little town from our snapshots:

I'll be putting 2 more here in just a minute. These videos were taken on Thursday night, during a Skype session with the Hillsboro Barkers. Be sure to listen for Sydney saying "cousin Matilda" and Clara saying "baba"!!
Ooops...I've run out of room, so I won't be putting out anything else until I get some technical assistance. Sorry.

Conference & Caps & Colder

Speaking of purple, as most of you know, we get together with Darren & Livy Franchow (Dad's old boss, who has MS and retired just before Dad) once a month at Little America for lunch and a 2-hour gab session. They are such nice people and fun to talk to. They have a "purple thumb" and grow wonderful lavendar bushes that are the talk of their neighborhood. They brought us several vases of dried lavender last week...here is a photo of one:
Notice how green and lush our backyard looks for October. However the next day, the temperatures dropped 40 degrees, the wind blew, the rains came and it snowed in the hills. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! This isn't a good photo, because I took it too late in the day, but you can see the cold, white stuff on the hills to the east of our Ornamental Pear tree. Boo Hoo.

At Last..or Finally...Red Butte Gardens!!!

I have been trying to get to Red Butte Gardens for many a year. I've always sorta suggested it for my birthday, but it's off the beaten path for family members down south and then it's been put off for some reason or other. I've thought that spring or summer would be the best time to visit, but this last week of September, with the beautiful (almost record warmth) sunny days, turned out to be perfect. We spent 2-1/2 hours strolling around and taking in the flowers and bees, water features and boweries, sculptures and gift shop, etc. Dad took 188 photos with his big camera and I took 192 with the little one! WHAT FUN!!! We pared them down (not fun) to the following 82!!! Hope you enjoy looking at them.

2 More Caching Trails--Buffalo Ranch & Great Salt Lake Shoreline
We spent 3 hours caching on 2 new trails west of the "Golf Ball on a Tee" (or Soccer Ball). It used to be
the furthest point west you could go to in Farmington. We were on the Great Salt Lake Shoreline Trail and parts of the Buffalo Ranch Trail. The trails loop around a horse ranch and 3 ponds where "solitude" would best describe the experience and then behind some new subdivisions and some older farmhouses and along the big power lines/poles. We went in the late afternoon...sunsets would be beautiful later in the day.

Caching on Farmington Creek
When I think of Farmington Creek, I think of Farmington Canyon, dumping into Farmington Pond and running under 600 North. But of course it winds its way on to the GSL. We were happy to stroll along this section of the creek in West Farmington, just east and flowing southwest behind the Justice Center and the Fairgrounds, with still quite a bit of water for the end of September and flanked by cooling trees where we were. Fun to find 3 or 4 caches in a new-to-us area of our hometown. The City's Trails Committee has certainly gone to a lot of work and done a good job. I think they are proud that Farmington has more than 100 miles of excellent trails (including our little "rock walk"), more than any other city in Davis County and perhaps 2nd only to SLC in the state.
